About

Welcome To Bowpond!

We are very excited to be able to present our products that we have tried to create in a very unique and special offering. The website is brand new, however the history and craftsmanship are over 40 years in the making!

Today, we call Cochrane Alberta home, which is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

I have an education in Forestry and it has always been shared with my love of wood and all that can be created with it. I have evolved my love into a long time hobby and now have the opportunity to share our love of what we create.

All of our boards go through a very thorough process so that our final product is something both ourselves and our customers will be very proud of.

We pick wood pieces that are first of all, sustainable, whether they have been repurposed, recycled, harvested to enable new crops that will replace depleted orchards( such as walnut, olive and apple trees).

We look for unique pieces from a perspective that we can create something unique from the grain patterns, voids, crevices, cracks or even holes. I travel throughout North America, and I am always searching new sources of unique woods.

Once we start with the rough wood, we often spend hours preparing the piece by removing bark, flattening, planing, edging, cutting to size and sanding. Whether the piece is set into a mold to add resin, or just left as a give edge, or dimensional work, we always strive to maintain the same quality.

Many of our pieces are unique in that we have developed a process whereby we inset flowers, ferns, pebbles, small rocks, sand, fall foliage and various other items between layers of resin to preserve them and to provide a 3D appearance.

Our finished boards, are sanded to 320 grit finish for an incredibly smooth feel and appearance. We apply 3 coats of a mineral oil finish, followed by 2 coats of a natural bees wax polish that is buffed into the finish to provided protection and sheen. We campher the edges of all of our boards to give a finished look and we also add finger grips beneath each end of the boards to enable ease of picking the piece from a flat surface.

We also carry a line of homemade polish to provide normal upkeep to any natural wood product which restores the initial look. It is a combination of food safe mineral oil, bees wax and carnauba wax which is in a paste form that is easy to apply and is perfectly food safe.
